FLAVOUR OF SUCCESS FOR SAUSAGES AND PIES

Green’s of Pangbourne has confirmed its reputation as being the best butcher in the region by winning Gold Medals for every one of its seven products entered into a fiercely contested competition.

Among the wins was the ultimate accolade for Green’s Christopher Cripps. He once again confirmed his place as the area’s number one sausage maker by the winning the coveted Supreme Champion title for the fifth time, achieving the maximum possible score of 100 points out of 100 from independent judges who assessed his Pork Original Sausage as being absolutely perfect in appearance, texture, flavour, size, and colour.

Pies created by his brother Michael shared the gold medal podium at the Three Counties Competition, an event fought out by leading butchers in Berkshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire, held at The Swan Hotel, Streatley. His selection of three hand-made pies – Ham & Chicken, Steak & Stilton, Lamb & Rosemary, all encased in Green’s famous pastry – were judged as unbeatable.

Said Christopher: “The Pork Original is our best-selling sausage, which I make by hand to my grandfather Royston Hine’s recipe using premium-quality free-range local pork”. Golds also went to the Pork, Chili & Apricot; Pork & Sage; and Lamb & Rosemary sausages from the Green’s 20-flavour range.

Christopher and Michael are the third generation to work at the family firm in Whitchurch Road, Pangbourne.
