Green’s has been winning regional and national awards for many years – but 23 Gold Awards in one month was our all-time record!
We entered 13 products at a regional Pork Products contest and were delighted to win 13 Gold awards!
The products that scored gold were: Pork Original Sausage, Pork & Caramelised Onion Sausage, Green Back Bacon, Cherry Smoked Back, Maple Smoked Back, Old English Burger, Ham & Chicken Pie, Sausage Roll, Scotch Egg, Ham Quiche, Chorizo Stuffed Pork Cutlet, Italian Meatballs and Pork Wellington.
We also won a further three ‘Category Champion’ titles; Ham and Chicken Pie (Speciality Hot Eating Pork Pie category), Ham Quiche (Speciality Pork Product category) and Pork Original Sausage (Traditional Pork Sausage category), as well as scooping the ‘Overall Champion’ title for the South of England with our Chorizo Stuffed Pork Cutlets – a combination of locally-produced pork and homemade chorizo.
Senior Butcher Chris Cripps said, “Receiving gold awards for all our pork products on the day was just brilliant, but to go on to triumph in four categories and scoop the ‘Overall Champion’ title was incredible!
“We are a family business that is always looking to develop new products for our customers. The Chorizo Stuffed Pork Cutlets recipe was developed after we decided to offer something a bit different to a standard chop, as well as create something that would look good in the shop window.
We only recently developed the recipe, which uses our own chorizo and locally sourced pork, and required a second opinion – it seems that in winning ‘Overall Champion’ it has definitely passed the taste test!
“Our original pork sausages, which won the Traditional Pork Sausage category, are made to a recipe handed down from my grandfather, Master Butcher Royston Hine; people come to us especially for these sausages, which are made with local free range pork.
“Our Ham and Chicken Pie, which took the title of Best Specialty Hot Eating Pork Pie, is one of our most popular pies in the shop, so it was great to know that the judges loved it just as much as our loyal customers. Finally, our winning Ham Quiche uses good quality ingredients, all carefully chopped by hand and baked to perfection.”
Meanwhile, our handmade pies and sausages also impressed the judges at the Foodex exhibition at the NEC Birmingham. Green’s won the Speciality Hot Eating Pie category with our Chicken Curry Pie. Gold awards were also rewarded to the Pork Original Sausage, Pork & Sage Sausage, Beef Sausage, Sausage Roll, Beef Burger, Beef & Chilli Burger, Curry Pie, Beef Bouguignon Pie, Beef Wellington and Beef Pinwheels.
