Chorizo Stuffed Cutlets wins National Champion!

After wowing a panel of consumer judges with our full-flavoured pork ready meal, Green’s of Pangbourne has been crowned the National Champion of the 2013-14 BPEX Regional Roadshow and Pork Product Excellence Awards for our Chorizo Stuffed Pork Cutlets.

During a six month tour of the country, BPEX  met with 214 butchers, sampled 1,396 pork products, and recognised five regional champions. All five champions joined BPEX at Butchers’ Hall recently to celebrate the end of the 2013-2014 awards season and find out who was to be crowned ‘National Champion’.

Champion of the South of England leg of the roadshow, Chris Cripps of Greens of Pangbourne was awarded the National Champion title for his ‘Chorizo Stuffed Pork Cutlets’ – a combination of local Free Range Pork and homemade Chorizo. We were presented with an original watercolour painting of a Tamworth pig by artist Chris Pendleton, which we now proudly display in our shop.

Chris Cripps said: “The Chorizo Stuffed Pork Cutlets recipe was developed after we decided to offer something a bit different to a standard chop, as well as create something that would look good in the shop window. It’s a recently developed recipe, which uses our own Chorizo and locally sourced Free Range Pork.”

Keith Fisher, BPEX Butchery and Product Development Manager said: “The judges were hugely impressed by the quality of all five products, but the Chorizo Stuffed Pork Cutlets were really innovative, offering a unique pork-based ready meal to customers.”
